Johnny

Concert by John Hoban  Singer, Composer
Traditional Irish Musician on December 31, 20:00pm at Nador u. 32. First floor, Conference Room.
John Hoban comes from Castlebar, County Mayo in the West of Ireland.  John has played and taught music all his life in the Troubadour tradition.  He chose to learn his music with care over many years from some of Ireland's most respected musicians.  John combines the best of the Irish tradition with an intimate, warm and raw sensibility that is his own.  He is an accomplished player of fiddle/violin, banjo, whistles, mandocello in addition to being a singer and composer of wonderful songs and music. He is highly regarded nationally and internationally for the unique and deeply personal nature of his music.  He has recorded solo song and instrumental CD's as well as performing on many collaborative recordings.  He is also a collector of all types of music and folklore.  John is also reknown as a gifted teacher who has developed a unique approach to music teaching for all ages.

PROGRAM During the concert, John will play Mandocello to accompany himself singing a selection of original, Traditional and contemporary songs.  He will also play instrumental Irish, original and "other" music on fiddle, whistles and mandolin.  He will tell stories relevant to all music played.

QUOTES: "John Hoban's music brings us back to the source. He searched out music from old masters, showing deep respect for the social contexts in which music was played for generations". Tom Clancy, Music Critic, San Francisco   "Castlebar, Ireland Native, John Hoban - musician, singer, songwriter, poet - has travelled all over the world with his music. The ultimate multi-instrumentalist, John plays fiddle, accordian, mandolin, mado.cello, harmonica etc ... He writes, composes his own songs and music. It has been said that he could make music from a sheaf of oats . Behind the talent and enthusiasm of John is a caring, wise artist. A simple man unfettered by much of the clutter we deem so important in modern society" Sean Walsh, Arts Officer, Mayo County Council. Ireland.
